Martel et sa légende : il existe deux versions de cette légende sur la création de la ville.
Aujourd'hui, je vous présente la première version (demain la deuxième) :
« Selon la première, Charles-Martel, après avoir arrêté Abd-el-Rahman et ses Arabes, à Poitiers, en 732, acheva son oeuvre les années suivantes en écrasant leurs bandes en Aquitaine, Vers 735, il livra deux combats décisifs aux infidèles non loin de Martel, près de Murel, et au village de la Mauretié, près de Louchac. Des ossements que l'on trouve encore, dit-on, en ces parages, viendraient confirmer la tradition dont Jean Vidal s'est fait l'écho. Pour commémorer sa victoire et remercier Dieu, Charles aurait fait bâtir, sur le plateau qui porte Martel, une église dédiée à Saint-Maur, le pieux disciple de Saint-Benoît, dont la renommée était grande en ce temps ».
